INVITATION FOR FOREIGN COLLEAGUES-PHILOSOPHERS

TO TAKE PART IN A JOINT PROJECT

Dear Colleagues,

From July 30th to August 5th 2008 Seoul (South Korea) will host the XXII World Philosophical Congress under the headline «RETHINKING PHILOSOPHY TODAY». About 150 Russian philosophers plan to take part in this event.

Results of such congresses are of great importance for revitalization and promotion of national philosophy; that is why it is so important to acquaint the representatives of philosophical and humanitarian studies in Russia (especially in Siberia and in the Far East) with the most advanced ideas through direct conversation with the leading Russian and foreign scholars. Taking the above-said into consideration, the Russian Philosophical Society plans a tremendous cultural and enlightening action to be held after the Congress.

Participants of the action will arrive by ferry from South Korea to Vladivostok and then travel back to Moscow by train with stops in Khabarovsk, Chita, Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk (with a trip to the lake Baikal), Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Ekaterinburg and Kazan where, apart from cultural and educational programs, scholarly conferences, roundtables, meetings with scholars will be organized. It will be a useful exchange of experiences because not only the participants of the Congress will be able to tell their colleagues about the event, but they, in their turn, will learn many new things about living behind the Urals, in Siberia and in the Far East. This idea has already provoked great interest and is actively discussed among Russian and foreign philosophers.

To put this project into being we intend to reserve special carriages to bring philosophers from Vladivostok to Moscow with stops in the above-mentioned cities.

This cultural and enlightening action will be widely covered by mass media and will not only attract the attention of the general public to philosophy and science in general, but will also rise philosophers’ responsibility for the situation in the society.

During the Congress in South Korea there will be a special cultural program for those who are not Congress participants but intend to participate in the action (those who did not provide abstracts in time, accompanying persons, sponsors, etc.).

The length of the trip (from Seoul to Moscow) is about 15 days. Suggested price is about 2 thousand euro. Final length and price will be established by the beginning of April, 2008 while making the final version of the program.
